Who we are

What we collect, and why

The contact and booking forms ask for your name, email address, phone number and postcode, plus whatever you write in the message. They exist so we can reply and, if you book, turn up at the right house. The forms are delivered to our inbox by Web3Forms, a form delivery service, which passes your message to us by email.

The share-your-project form asks for your name, town, your words and your photographs. These are stored with Google Firebase, which also hosts this website, and nothing appears publicly until we have read and approved it. When a review is published we show your first name and town only, never your surname or contact details.

If you ring or email us, we keep the details needed to do the work: your name, address, contact details and the job itself. We have been a paper-and-ledger business since 1984 and we treat our records the old-fashioned way, they are for doing your work and nothing else.

Visitor counting

We use Google Analytics to count visits to the site, so we know which pages people find useful and which they do not. It sets a small cookie in your browser to tell a returning visitor from a new one. What we see is counts and rough areas, never your name or address, and we do not use it for advertising. If your browser blocks cookies, the site works exactly the same.

What we do not do

• We do not sell, rent or swap your details with anyone.
• Beyond the visitor counting above, this site sets no cookies and runs no advertising trackers.
• We do not sign you up to a mailing list. If we ever start one, joining it will be a choice you make, not a box we ticked for you.

Who handles data for us

The website is hosted by Google Firebase, form messages are delivered by Web3Forms, visitor numbers are counted by Google Analytics, and our email runs on Google Workspace. Each handles data only to provide that service to us. Like any web host, Google keeps standard server logs of requests to the site.

How long we keep things

Enquiries stay in our inbox until they are dealt with and then as ordinary business correspondence. Job records are kept for as long as the law and good sense require, gas work paperwork in particular has statutory retention periods. Published reviews stay up until you ask us to take yours down.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted where the law allows. Ask by phone or email, we do not make a performance of it. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your details you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
