Over the last 30 years, Surrey has experienced some of its coldest winters ever. With temperatures getting more extreme in recent history, this trend of hotter summers and colder winters can be expected. 2018 saw the coldest winter Surrey had experienced since 1986, according to records kept at Gatwick by the Met Office. Dropping below zero and reaching as far as -10C, it was certainly a shock across Surrey. A number of schools had to shut down for a day to allow temperatures to rise again. Weather warnings have been given every year in recent years and nothing sounds better in these conditions than cosying up with the family by the fireplace.
Dealing With Cold Weather In Surrey
Weather warnings are placed in the winter months across Surrey to help prevent motor accidents, areas such as Reigate and Leatherhead experienced heavy snowfall. Not great for those trying to get to work but the local school children were overjoyed with the school closing for a day or two. Minimising travel and having a good supply of food are vital parts of dealing with the snow and dangerous weather, luckily in the UK we are in a more temperate weather system but with record cold winters seemingly occurring every few years you can’t be too careful. If you don’t have a place for storing wood logs, gas or electric fireplaces are an excellent viable option.
