Modern and Contemporary Stoves

Wakefords is a Surrey stove and fireplace shop offering modern and traditional stoves, handling everything from helping you choose your stove, to installing it and maintaining it. Wakeford’s stove and fireplace showroom allows you to explore a wide range of styles, with help on hand to find the perfect stove to complement your home, and the assurance that every stove is fitted safely and efficiently.

Over the last 10 years, the stove in all its forms has become very popular in homes of all shapes and size across Surrey and the UK. There are a number of different types of stove in terms of appearance, fuel and use. What was once a humble method of heating small cottages has now become the fire of choice for millions of homes. See below for our range of Modern and Contemporary Multi fuel stoves and Wood Burning Stoves.

Stove installation Surrey

Stoves offer high levels of efficiency, safety and less mess than conventional open fires. The ability to be able to close the doors and leave a stove burning without any concerns of spitting embers or children and pets touching the flames is certainly appealing to many people.

Modern wood burning stove

As with all types of fire, making the right choice is critical. The wrong size stove in the wrong place could lead to minimal heat levels or dangerously high temperatures close to susceptible walls or door frames. Wakeford’s stock a wide range of stoves and are happy to help advise on the right sort for you. As always, we offer the option of a full installation service with any stove you buy.

Wood Burning Stoves Surrey

Available in both contemporary or more traditional designs, modern wood burning stoves are designed to burn wood in a highly efficient manner. Compared to an open fire a wood burning stove will considerably reduce the household’s carbon footprint per weight of wood burnt. This type of stove offers all the visual pleasure of a wood fire but also considerable heat production from the stove itself as well as directly through the glass front. Wakefords stock a number of different brands including Stovax, Faber, Vallor and more.

Multi-Fuel Stoves Surrey

Offering more flexibility when it comes to the types of fuel you can use; multi-fuel stoves allow you to choose what is right for your home and also your heating needs at the time. These stoves are able to burn coal products which can provide an enormous amount of heat but sometimes don’t produce the classic flames and visual appeal of wood. Being able to burn both allows you to add wood on top of a coal base and get the best of both worlds. On a very cold winters day burning purely coal will provide a long-lasting warmth but you can also use wood to impress your dinner party guests with the real fire look.

How to Calculate Your Stove Size

To calculate the right size stove for your room, multiply the room’s length, width, and height in metres before dividing this by 14. This will give you the appropriate stove output for a well-insulated, cosy space; typically, a room needs around 1kW of heat per 14m³.

Please bear in mind that poor insulation or large windows may decrease the efficiency of your room, so a larger stove size than calculated may be necessary to account for this.

Installation Process

Getting your stove installed correctly is absolutely critical to its longevity and safety. The friendly team at Wakeford Fireplaces are knowledgeable and experienced and have the know-how to ensure your stove is a safe and cherished centrepiece in your home for many years to come.

At the time of completing the installation of your stove, the Wakeford Fireplaces fitting team will ensure everything is working safely and correctly and the necessary HETAS or Gas-Safe certificates will be issued and certified for the installation. We will be on hand for any advice in weeks to come as you get used to using your new stove, and in years to come for any servicing, maintenance, or accessories you may require.

Installation Process

Riva Plus Midi Wood burning stove

Getting your stove installed correctly is absolutely critical to its longevity and safety. The friendly team at Wakeford Fireplaces are knowledgeable and experienced and has the know-how to ensure your stove is a safe and cherished centrepiece in your home for many years to come.

We ensure a simple process for installing your new stove:

  1. Pre-installation – before installation, we will survey your room and carry out certain checks to determine exactly what work needs to be done.
  2. Preparation – we then ensure you have a non-combustible hearth that is the right size for the stove you’ve chosen. At this stage, we also ensure there is sufficient clearance from the stove and flue pipe based on the manufacturer’s guidance and building regulations.
  3. Ventilation – if you have an existing chimney, we will sweep and inspect it to ensure it’s safe. If there is no chimney, we can install an approved twin-wall insulated flue system.
  4. Installation – we will position the stove securely in place and ensure it is level and aligned. We make sure everything is joined and sealed for complete safety and efficiency.

At the time of completing the installation of your stove, the Wakeford Fireplaces fitting team will ensure everything is working safely and correctly, and the necessary HETAS or Gas-Safe certificates will be issued and certified for the installation. We will be on hand for any advice in weeks to come as you get used to using your new stove, and in years to come for any servicing, maintenance, or accessories you may require.

Wood burning and multi-fuel stove safety; content on safety, covering topics like minimum clearances from combustibles, proper ventilation requirements, the necessity of carbon monoxide detectors, and safe fuel storage practices

Using a wood-burning or multi-fuel stove safely is crucial to protecting your home and your family whilst also ensuring efficient operation. Here are our key safety tips when owning a stove:

  • Minimum clearances – you should always maintain manufacturer-recommended clearances between the stove and any combustible materials such as wood, furniture, walls, and curtains, for example.
  • Proper ventilation – stoves need a sufficient air supply for combustion, as poor ventilation can reduce efficiency and produce harmful gases.
  • Carbon Monoxide safety – there must be at least one CO detector in the same room as the stove. These detectors will need to be checked and batteries replaced regularly to ensure they continue working long-term.
  • Regular checks – if you have a chimney, it must be swept at least once a year to prevent soot and creosote buildup, as this is a huge fire and health risk. Seals, gaskets, and firebricks must also be checked, and glass panels need to be cleaned.
